◊ The masters of Tuareg blues present
their most powerful album to date

For more than forty years Tinariwen has been that imploring Assouf band around Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, pioneers of the Touareg blues, and after more than six years they are finally back in AB where the band will present their new, very strong, album 'Amatssou' (Warp). The album was originally to be recorded at Jack White's studio in Nashville at his invitation. Grammy Award winner Daniel Lanois was to produce and several local country musicians were to play on it....suddenly corona was there and the whole project fell through. The alternative became no less challenging. Recording continued in Djanet, an oasis in the desert of southern Algeria, located in the Tassili N'Ajjer National Park, a vast sandstone plateau that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its 10,000-year-old prehistoric cave art. An improvised studio was built with borrowed equipment from Imarhans' studio, and through the wonders of technology, Lanois and country musicians Fats Kaplinand Wes Corb were able to record their contributions from a distance. The result has become a very punishing record that sings of the harsh realities of the Tamashek people of northern Mali: the military junta, the presence of the Wagner Group, the departure of the French from the region and the growing power of the Salafists. And through the collaborations with Lanois & C°, the musical kinship between Tinariwen's sub-Saharan desert blues and authentic American roots music is further highlighted.
